Lou Wratchford: An Advocate for Her Tribe

It took Lou Wratchford many years to think of herself as a leader. “I’ve always thought of myself as an Upper Mattaponi person, and always an advocate for my Tribe,” said Assistant Chief Lou Wratchford of the Upper Mattaponi Tribe in King William, Virginia, who was elected by her tribe in October 2023. Lou is now the third woman executive leader in the Upper Mattaponi’s modern history.

Power Forward Communities Awarded $2 Billion as Part of the National Clean Investment Fund to Decarbonize American Homes

Today, Power Forward Communities, a coalition of some of the country’s most trusted housing, climate, and community investment groups, was awarded a $2 billion, seven-year National Clean Investment Fund (NCIF) grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide capital for affordable residential decarbonization throughout the country, with a specific focus on low-income and disadvantaged communities.
