Every neighborhood has assets – the people, places, and experiences that make each community unique. Our Detroit work focuses on leveraging those assets with capital, programs and policy to advance equity and preserve affordable homes. We’ve helped create or preserve over 21,436 homes by leveraging $993.5 million in capital across the region.

Some of our key programs include:

Community Development Organization Funds: Supports the sustainability and success of local nonprofits with multi-year operating grants and technical assistance.
Equitable Path Forward: A five-year, $3.5 billion nationwide initiative to help disadvantaged developers gain access to capital, advisory services and leadership training.
Detroit Home Repair Fund: Builds capacity for non-profit partners to provide low-income homeowners with critical home repairs.
Thome Aging Well: Supports Michigan nonprofits to expand aging-in-place initiatives for older adults.
State and Local Policy: Collaborates with state and local housing partners to advocate for land contract reform, fair tax treatment of community land trusts, and eviction prevention.

Funder Spotlight

Gilbert Family Foundation

The Gilbert Family Foundation is the lead sponsor of our Detroit Home Repair Fund (DHRF), which is building capacity for non-profit partners to provide low-income Detroit homeowners with critical health and safety home repairs. Holistically addressing Detroit housing stability, the program is expected to serve more than 1,000 Detroit homeowners.
