Community in the Heart of New Orleans
Elysian Courtyards of Gentilly (Elysian Courtyards) is located in the Dillard section of the New Orleans neighborhood of Gentilly. Two major bus lines service the neighborhood, providing access to most points of interest around the city, and residents have access to four public schools, two grocery stores and two health clinics.
Eighty-five percent of Dillard homes were damaged by Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent flooding. The limited availability of habitable homes caused rental pricing to soar in the years following the hurricane. The impact of this loss of housing hit low-income households the hardest, as they could not locate an affordable place to live.
When Elysian Courtyards opened in 2010, Dillard had a zero percent vacancy rate; the new building provided much-needed affordable housing. The redevelopment of Elysian Courtyards by Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation transformed a formerly vacant and blighted property into a neighborhood asset.
