This case study profiles the Kenzi at Bartlett Station, an affordable apartments building for residents 55+ in Roxbury, Massachusetts, developed by Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH). Development focused on the electricity needs of the residents, and the building features backup battery energy storage and rooftop solar. It is Massachusetts’ first all-electric building over four stories with a city-permitted solar plus battery storage system. The case study looks at the approval process as well as the remediation of the surrounding area, Bartlett Square, which was once a toxic brownfield and is now a community hub.
