Originally designed for two new housing developments, the modular CLT multifamily prototype ultimately faced market and feasibility challenges. Even without reaching full-scale development, the innovation raises awareness of less extractive and more climate-forward construction practices and the importance of sustainable supply chains.

Impact Justice imagines, builds, and scales innovations that advance safety, justice, and opportunity. The Homecoming Project inspired by the sharing economy and designed to change what reentry looks like in the U.S.

What will the grant period be?

The grant period will be for three years, from November 2023 through October 2026.

How many winners will be selected? And how many winners will there be in each area?

The challenge will award at least one breakthrough idea in each of the three focus areas. There are no defined number of awards.

How do you define rural?

The challenge is following HUD’s definition of a rural area: a place having fewer than 2,500 inhabitants; a county or parish with an urban population of 20,000 inhabitants or less; any place with a population not in excess of 20,000 inhabitants and not located in a Metropolitan Statistical Area.
