Elevating Community Development Organizations in Detroit

In historically under-resourced communities in Detroit, Michigan, and across the country, small grassroots organizations led by Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) play an indispensable role: They’re taking on local challenges with a deep knowledge and commitment that is often personal. Yet, despite being closest to the needs of their communities, they are often furthest from the resources required to provide solutions.

Enterprise launched the ECDO Fund in 2021 to provide flexible operational grants and technical assistance to support emerging BIPOC-led CDOs, recognizing the unique challenges these organizations face in building the organizational sustainability and scaling their work. The $1.8 million ECDO Fund supported six organizations with support from three funders over a two-year pilot.

This report documents the impact the ECDO Fund has on participating organizations and the communities they serve.
