Andy Schneggenburger
The Historic District Development Corporation

“During the Fellowship, I learned first-hand the value of partnerships... from development partnerships that ensure projects are designed and built to maximize their potential for neighborhood revitalization, to public/private partnerships that bring funding options and development perspectives together, to partnerships with grassroots organizations that help give communities their voice.”
Andy Schneggenburger's tenure with the Historic District Development Corporation (HDDC) involved him in design and construction projects in the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic District in downtown Atlanta. The project included the design of three modular homes, with two constructed on infill sites within the neighborhood. Two historic homes were fully rehabilitated shortly thereafter. Andy also served on owner representation teams during construction of a mixed-use, mixed-income, 271-unit apartment development, and during the design of an award-winning mixed-use loft development.
In addition to these projects, Andy helped HDDC develop a greater understanding of environmental construction practices and of techniques for meeting the demanding requirements of the historic register. He also created a development plan for more than two dozen scattered-site lots in the district, responding to a variety of design and market conditions. The Enterprise office in Atlanta provided financing for acquisition and construction of the modular home project, and tax-credit consultation for the mixed-use apartment development.
After completing his fellowship, Andy accepted the position of executive director of the Atlanta Housing Association of Neighborhood-Based Developers. He currently serves on the board of the Atlanta Micro Fund and on the advisory committee for the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta's Neighborhood Fund. Andy holds a Bachelor of Science in architecture from the University of Michigan and a master's in architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology.
