Allan Co
Hudson River Housing

"I hope to contribute to the network of social and impact-driven design, affordable housing and community development. I am especially impassioned and interested in how this work can be used to catalyze economic revitalization in legacy cities and small towns that have gone through huge demographic and economic shifts. This opportunity with Hudson River Housing can challenge outdated ideas of architecture and design of low-income housing by pushing it as an integral piece in a larger picture of economic resiliency, social capital and community strength."

Allan is hosted by Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based Hudson River Housing (HRH), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of improving lives and communities through affordable housing in sustainable vibrant neighborhoods. Allan’s fellowship is hosted in partnership with MASS Design Group. MASS is designer and collaborator on the Family Partnership Center, an agglomerated health services center and a major part of the fellowship workplan. Allan will also contribute heavily to HRH’s Middle Main initiative, which sees historic preservation, placemaking and social enterprise as being integral to the revitalization of downtown Poughkeepsie.

Allan is a graduate of the University of Washington holding a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Architecture History and Theory. He also holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Rice University. He is a licensed architect, and worked at Timothy Bryant Architect in New York prior to joining the fellowship.
