“Cities, funders, and developers must explore altruistic methods and design guidelines that use the built environment as a conduit to drive socio-economic change. This must be done in order to nurture a centripetal aspect of human well-being: to love and be loved.”
During her fellowship with Develop Detroit, Bucky will employ human-centered methods to create a set of design guidelines and place-making strategies that will better position Develop Detroit to gain greater community input on its projects. She believes that building genuine relationships with stakeholders is vital to truly successful community development.
Bucky hopes her final deliverables will be integrated into Develop Detroit’s project management processes in a way that will allows the staff of the organization to shift over the years, but the relationships that have been built remain strong. Furthermore, she hopes to cement "resident-focused" characteristics of the organization into its identity and that stakeholders grow to expect genuine engagement from the organization.
Bucky received her M. Arch from the University of Detroit Mercy and has been awarded previous fellowship, including the New Economy Initiative (Detroit Innovation Fellowship), New Museum (Ideas City Fellowship), and 880 Cities (Emerging City Champion Fellowship).
