"I believe the Regenerative Community Empowerment Center has the capacity to serve as a model for other rural communities wanting to develop in a healthy and sustainable way, both on the Pine Ridge Reservation and beyond. I hope my background in architecture and community engagement can positively contribute to their effort of creating safe, healthy, inspiring environments that encourage cultural empowerment and growth."

Kaziah Haviland will spend her three-year fellowship with Thunder Valley CDC (TVCDC), an organization based in the Porcupine district of the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. TVCDC’s major project is the Thunder Valley Regenerative Community and Empowerment Center, which will integrate housing, social services, commercial space and light industrial buildings into a holistic model for tribal community development. Kaziah Haviland will brings her architectural experience to TVCDC, expanding design capacity through a period of substantial growth.

Prior to joining the fellowship, Kaziah worked with GO collaborative – an architecture and planning firm focused on creative, community design and development – on a project using the arts to investigate political transformation in Austin, Texas. She is co-founder of a design firm called OSSO Studio, and holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas, Austin.
