“Great design makes our lives better - more comfortable and enjoyable, healthier, more equitable, more sustainable and more resilient. Everyone deserves to have their lives touched and positively impacted by design, not just those who might be able to afford design services.”
Coming from a region with an entirely different climate and minimal transit options, John is excited to learn more about the community land trust model and the affordable housing challenges in South Florida. At South Florida Community Land Trust (SFCLT), he will be exploring design and project management solutions to support the incorporation of the CLT model into transit-oriented development. This will help preserve affordable housing, even as property values rise in conjunction to transit; this ensures people are more equitably connected to workplaces, services, schools and healthcare.
John believes that architecture is not only about solving problems, but effectively communicating the solutions to these problems, especially to the communities they are affecting. He hopes to support the growth of SFLCT and drive innovation where it is needed. He looks forward to embedding himself into the many unique communities across Miami and Fort Lauderdale and work with them to realize meaningful projects.
John is received his M.Arch from the University of New Mexico and is a licensed architect in New Mexico. He acts as the Communications Director for the AIA National Young Architects Forum Advisory Committee and has been named a National Emerging Professional Scholar by the AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice.
