2016 Institute: Design Camp
Hosted by Enterprise Design Initiative, in partnership with City of Detroit, Enterprise’s seventh annual Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute (AHDLI) took place in Detroit in July, 2016. The theme for the 2016 Institute was "Design Camp," a unique training opportunity to discuss real-world development projects. The theme of this year’s Institute answered the following questions:
- How can collaboration between developers, designers, and city agencies result in exceptional affordable housing projects?
- Which design strategies help to strengthen neighborhood fabric?
- How do we design to meet resident needs and achieve specific impacts?
- How can Detroit become a national model for comprehensive community development?
The keynote lecture of this year's Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute: Design Camp featured a keynote presentation by Julie Eizenberg, FAIA, and Founding Principal of Koning Eizenberg Architecture. Eizenberg brings an empathetic perspective to design that translates seemingly mundane programs into places of ease and generosity.
