Where has Streetwyze Been Tried, and What Have We Learned?

cover page
How Streetwyze engaged the residents of Newark, New Jersey to bring attention to the health status of their community, strengthen community resources, and facilitate changes in policy, planning and service delivery.

Streetwyze is a mobile mapping and SMS tool that collects local knowledge about how people are experiencing cities and turns that information into actionable analytics.

In Newark, Streetwyze was launched by the Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC), a community-based organization with strong roots in East Newark, and the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance (NJEJA), a statewide policy group with long-standing relationships with community leaders throughout Newark and beyond. Over the course of the project, the Streetwyze team trained and worked with about 45 residents as they observed and mapped the environmental health of their local communities and developed plans and models to transform their communities.
