Section 4 Recipient Spotlight: Springboard to Opportunities (Mississippi)
Proven and effective, Section 4 – officially, the federal Section 4 Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing Program – strengthens local organizations across the country. Through its annual grants, the program helps organizations find new solutions to create affordable homes and healthy neighborhoods for families, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities and other low-income people.
Together with our local partners, Enterprise is multiplying the impact of local affordable housing development and helping families succeed. This case study documents how Springboard to Opportunities used a Section 4 grant from Enterprise to develop a business plan and establish a roadmap for its financial and business growth. In the past three years, Springboard has expanded rapidly from a pilot project to a resident service provider in eight communities across two states. In 2016, the organization increased its resident service programming by 48 percent in a three month period. Initially serving 2,500 low-income or extremely low-income residents in six affordable housing properties in Mississippi, they grew to add another 1,200 individuals in Maryland.
