Health & Housing Partnerships for Equitable Response & Recovery

Equitable Response and Recovery from Covid-19

By Citi

Enterprise and Citi hosted a virtual convening on “Health and Housing Partnerships for an Equitable Response and Recovery from Covid-19” on Thursday, October 1. The first in a series of Health Begins with Home convenings, this virtual event featured keynote speaker Dr. Tiffany Manuel, President and CEO of TheCaseMade, to discuss how participants can center equity in their health and housing partnerships to support their response to and eventual recovery from Covid-19.

As the housing and health care sectors come together to forge partnerships, it is important to understand how both sectors contributed to the inequities that led to significant racial disparities in health outcomes in the United States.

During this webinar, participants will learn how to center equity in their health and housing partnerships to support their response to and eventual recovery from Covid-19, recognizing the disproportionate impact the pandemic is having on communities of color.

Priscilla Almodovar, Enterprise Chief Executive Officer, and Hala Farid, Citi Community Development-Office of Inclusive Housing SVP/Director, gave opening remarks, followed by our keynote speaker, Dr. Tiffany Manuel, best-selling author and President/CEO of TheCaseMade. DrT, as she prefers to be called, talked about the historic and existing inequities in the way we treat health as well as the opportunities, practices and tools that can be used to respond and recover from Covid-19.

Arts Activist, Spoken Word Artist and Speaker, Marc Bamuthi Joesph joined us to share "Waves and Bridges" prior to a panel on how affordable housing organizations center health and equity in response to Covid-19. This panel was moderated by Juan Sebastian Arias, Deputy Director of Policy, Mayor’s Office at City of Chicago and included panelists Richard Gerwitz, Managing Director and Co-Head, Citi Community Capital; Jacquelyn Thornton, public health and housing professional; Angela Hurlock, Executive Director, Claretian Associates; and Roberto Garcia-Ceballos community organizer with Community Power Collective and Fideicomiso Comunitario Tierra Libre.
