Remembering Our Friend and Partner Mayor Edwin Lee

Our hearts are heavy today with the sudden passing of Mayor Edwin Lee. The first Asian American mayor of San Francisco, Mayor Lee was a civil rights champion, model public servant, and dedicated affordable housing advocate. Throughout his tenure, Mayor Lee pushed for an increase in affordable housing in San Francisco, and led innovative housing solutions to advance diversity, equity, and economic vitality.

Mayor Lee built one of the most robust and innovative housing departments in the country. He will also be remembered as a champion for HOPE SF, the country’s first comprehensive, anti-poverty public housing redevelopment program.

Mayor Lee inspired us as individuals, as affordable housing advocates, and as residents of San Francisco. The untimely passing of Mayor Lee is a tragic loss for the entire San Francisco community. Our staff thanks Mayor Lee for his leadership, compassion, and commitment to helping everyone afford a home in this city. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
