City and State Leaders Celebrate Opening of Metro Heights at Mondawmin, a Modern Transit-Oriented Development in West Baltimore

New development from Enterprise Homes provides 70 well-designed apartment homes built to LEED Silver standards and located across from Mondawmin transit hub

(BALTIMORE, November 29, 2018) – Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Kenneth C. Holt and other community leaders joined representatives of Enterprise Homes today for the grand opening of Metro Heights at Mondawmin, a striking new transit-oriented development at the corner of Reisterstown Road and Liberty Heights Avenue, 2700 Reisterstown Rd, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. 

Metro Heights stands across from the Mondawmin transit hub – served by the Metro and 11 regional bus lines – giving residents easy access to regional job centers and amenities. The adjacent Mondawmin Mall offers ample options for shopping and dining, as well as health services. The new Parks & People Foundation campus is across the street, and Druid Hill Park – the largest park in Baltimore City – provides expansive green space for leisure and recreational activities a block away.

“Enhancing access for citizens to all that our City has to offer is essential if we hope to be regarded as a 21st century city,” said Mayor Pugh. “The opening of Metro Heights is further evidence of our priority to invest in neighborhoods and improve the quality of life of residents. This is a prime residential location that provides easy access to higher education institutions, transportation, retail and so many of our cherished community assets.  I am grateful to our partners who have made this very attractive new residential complex possible.” 

This modern four-story elevator building offers 70 apartment homes in a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Built to LEED Silver standards, it includes features that promote energy efficiency and sustainability, such as Energy Star windows and appliances, high-efficiency heating and ventilating systems, water-conserving plumbing and stormwater management.  Residents have access to a suite of amenities, including in-unit washer/dryers, on-site parking, a business center a fitness room, and a club room with sweeping views of downtown Baltimore. 

“The grand opening marks the culmination of a search that Enterprise Homes began more than three years ago to provide new modern apartment homes to the Mondawmin area,” said Chickie Grayson, president and CEO of Enterprise Homes. “Metro Heights provides the residents with greater access to opportunity by connecting affordable, quality homes to other vital resources such as transportation, access to jobs and health care facilities.”
The total construction cost for Metro Heights is $15.9 million. Financing is being provided by the State of Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development, the City of Baltimore, SunTrust Community Capital, LLC, Enterprise Community Investment, Inc., the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and Bellwether Enterprise.

“Under Governor Hogan's leadership, the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development has provided financing to create or preserve more than 15,000 affordable units throughout our state,” said Secretary Holt. “Metro Heights at Mondawmin exemplifies the kind of affordable housing we support – high-quality, safe, energy-efficient apartments that improve the vitality of communities and the quality of life for their residents.” 

The architect for Metro Heights was Marks, Thomas Architects. The façade consultant was Ziger/Snead, and the general contractor was Harkins Builders.
