Geeta Rao Named Northern California Market Deputy Director
SAN FRANCISCO (Dec. 19, 2019) – Geeta Rao has been named deputy director for Enterprise's Northern California market, where she will oversee programmatic work, lend her expertise to help guide policy direction, as well as strategic planning, budgeting and all the other things aiding in the smooth operations for our terrific team.
Geeta started at Enterprise five years ago as a senior program director and advanced to director last year. Her work has included:
- Launching the Northern California market's preservation work by shaping Oakland’s first general obligation bond for preservation and designing the Bay Area Preservation Pilot with Metropolitan Transportation Commission
- Providing policy guidance on BART’s Affordable Housing and TOD policies
- Co-chairing Sustainable Chinatown to advance climate and cultural preservation goals
- Co-authoring The Elephant in the Region: Charting a Path for Bay Area Metro to Lead a Bold Regional Housing Agenda. This report laid the groundwork for Enterprise to co-sponsor our office’s first piece of legislation, AB 1487, which was recently signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom establishing the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority.
In 2020, Geeta will focus on overseeing the Bay Area Housing for All campaign, a regional housing ballot measure in November to raise $1 billion annually for affordable housing production, preservation and tenant protections.
Geeta holds a bachelor's degree from Bates College and a master's degree in City and Regional Planning from University of California Berkeley. In her free time, she dances every weekend and is a ‘reluctant birder’ with her family.
