New Family Health Center Provides Jobs, Critical Medical and Support Services
The new 23,000 square foot Diamond Neighborhoods Family Health Center will allow Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) to quadruple the number of patients they serve in the Diamond Neighborhoods, located six miles east of downtown San Diego, CA.
The three-story family health center will expand primary care and women’s health in the Diamond Neighborhoods, add new dental services, and host programs to support HIV outreach and prevention, infant health and childhood development. It is conveniently located on two main bus routes and is just a few blocks from a light rail station.
The Diamond Neighborhoods Family Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) – FQHCs are nonprofit community health centers which provide primary health care to low-income individuals and families regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. FQHCs are an important resource for delivering quality, affordable health care in low- income communities. Approximately 50 percent of residents in the immediate service area are low-income.
Enterprise Community Loan Fund, Inc. partnered with the Nonprofit Finance Fund to provide a $6.2 million bridge loan to the project. Enterprise also provided a $9 million New Markets Tax Credit allocation, for which Chase provided an equity investment. The project received $8.5 million in grant funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and FHCSD is contributing the land and more than $400,000 to support the project.
