On June 21, the Strategic Growth Council (SGC) approved awards totaling $402 million to 25 Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program developments throughout the state of California. Enterprise is a statewide technical assistance (TA) provider for the AHSC program and worked with 20 of the 25 successful applications. Congratulations to the awarded projects!

Established in 2014, the AHSC Program funds infill development, sustainable transportation and programs that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. AHSC is funded by cap-and-trade auction proceeds through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. The program is administered by SGC and implemented by the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).

The round 4 AHSC awards will result in more than 3,046 affordable homes, urban greening, new public transit services and active transportation infrastructure, resulting in a total reduction of approximately 550,000  metric tons of GHGs. Of these new homes, 946 will serve extremely low-income households, 988 will serve very low-income households, and 705 will be supportive housing. Seventy-seven percent, or more than $312 million in AHSC funds, will benefit disadvantaged communities.

These awards conclude the fourth AHSC application round, which began officially with the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) release in November 2018.  AHSC remains a competitive program; in round 4, SGC received 47 proposals requesting more than $673 million.

Enterprise strongly supports the continued funding of the AHSC program through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund so that this successful program can support highly competitive and transformative project proposals statewide.

The AHSC Round 5 NOFA will be released in fall 2019 with applications due in early 2020. Enterprise looks forward to continuing to provide comprehensive technical assistance to AHSC applicants statewide.
