The Enterprise New York 2020 Virtual Gala
On November 18, Enterprise New York hosted our 2020 Virtual Gala, honoring Vicki Been, deputy mayor for Housing and Economic Development, and Yvonne Stennett, executive director of Community League of the Heights.
The event featured a panel discussion of Project Parachute, a coalition of owners of market-rate and affordable apartment buildings, housing nonprofits, and service providers to address tenant hardship arising out of the Covid-19 crisis, particularly for those unserved or underserved by existing resources. Moderated by Maria Torres-Springer of the Ford Foundation, the panel brought together HPD Commissioner Louise Carroll, Mirtha Santana, vice president at RiseBoro Community Partnership, and Michael Collins, senior program officer at Enterprise, who was involved in the initial rollout and inception of the program.
Later in the evening, Chief Executive Officer Priscilla Almodovar introduced Enterprise’s new President of Solutions, Jacqueline Waggoner. At the forefront of their conversation was Enterprise’s new Strategic Plan and the continued importance of racial equity in housing and community development.
The night culminated in the deeply moving and powerful words of both honorees, Deputy Mayor Vicki Been and Yvonne Stennett, who spoke with a singular focus on the communities and New Yorkers they have served for years. Both speeches were passionate tributes to the continued importance of home as a place of security, pride and belonging.
Thank you to all who joined!
