CPDC To Celebrate 6th Annual JoyMaker Holiday Events

Children holding toys in the air

As the holiday season rolls around, it means it’s time for the 6th Annual CPDC JoyMaker Holiday Events!

Started in 2014, CPDC JoyMaker are a series of holiday events for youth and their families in CPDC communities, where youth do activities such as arts and crafts, story time, caroling, and creating holiday stories. At the close of each event, each child is able to choose a new toy, a new age-appropriate book, a bag of sweet treats, and a new set of winter gloves with a hat. Since 2014, over 1,000 youth have participated in the JoyMaker Holiday Events! For many youth, the items they receive at these events will be the only holiday gifts that they receive this year.

About JoyMaker Holiday Events

Each JoyMaker event is planned, organized, and run by resident volunteers in their own communities. This year, seven communities will hold JoyMaker events and will serve nearly 200 youth ages 4 to 12. The seven sites included in this year’s JoyMaker events include communities in Maryland; Virginia and Washington, D.C. They stretch from Silver Spring, Maryland, all the way to Richmond, Virginia!

The seven sites include:

  • Park Montgomery, Silver Spring, Maryland – Tuesday, December 10
  • Stony Brook, Alexandria, Virginia – Thursday, December 12
  • Mayfair Mansions, Northeast Washington, D.C. – Monday, December 16
  • Cedar Heights, Southeast Washington, D.C. – Tuesday, December 17
  • Arbor View, Southeast Washington, D.C. – Thursday, December 19
  • Island Walk, Reston, Virginia – Friday, December 20
  • Highland Park, Richmond, Virginia – Saturday, December 21

How to Contribute to JoyMaker Holiday Events

We’d love for you to be involved! We’ve created an Amazon Wish List full of popular toys for youth of all ages. We encourage anyone to purchase a toy (or more) by December 6 for distribution at JoyMaker events beginning on December 10.

When you purchase an item from the list, please ensure that you select the shipping address titled “Ryan Barton/CPDC,” which will populate automatically. The toy will be shipped directly to us for distribution to community youth.
