Enterprise’s New York office is honored to share that two new members have been elected to our Advisory Board: Laurie Ledford is the senior vice president and chief human resources officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, a Fortune 250 global professional services firm providing advice and solutions in the areas of risk, strategy, and people; and Benathan “Ben” Upshaw is the founder and co-owner of CB Emanuel Realty, a leading developer of affordable housing in New York.

Laurie is a member of Marsh & McLennan’s Executive Committee and is responsible for the talent strategy and the delivery of human resources services to the company’s nearly 65,000 colleagues worldwide. She is a recent graduate of the Partnership for New York City’s David Rockefeller Fellowship, which fosters civic engagement amongst corporate executives. Laurie brings community development knowledge from her fellowship and professional human resources experience to the advisory board. She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic University and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami.

“New York is facing a crisis of both homelessness and housing, and leaders in the public and private sectors must work together to address these issues,” said Laurie. “Enterprise is truly at the forefront of this effort, and it is an honor to join the board and tackle these challenges alongside some of New York’s strongest advocates.”

Ben oversees the financing and development of affordable homes across New York State in his role at CB Emmanuel. Ben has structured and closed over $500 million in housing transactions over the course of his career, including the 2,300 affordable apartments CB Emmanuel has developed since its founding in 2005. Prior to founding CB Emmanuel, Ben served as the Director of Finance for the New York City Housing Partnership (NYCHP) and Director of Real Estate Development for Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement (HCCI). Ben received his bachelor’s degree from Canisius College and his Master of Science in real estate, with a concentration in investment, from New York University’s Shack Institute of Real Estate.
“Now more than ever, we must commit to building stable, affordable, fair housing for everyday New Yorkers. With real issues of affordability and access facing people and families throughout the state, I’m excited to lend my support to an organization that takes a unique, creative approach to ensuring every New Yorker has a stable, affordable place to call home” said Ben.

“Laurie’s human resources background will make a real difference as we create more opportunities for mentorship and board-staff engagement,” said Todd Gomez, co-chair of the New York Advisory Board. “Ben’s firsthand experience as a developer, commitment to fair housing, and knowledge of upstate New York in particular will prove invaluable to our work.”
