My Second Summer Internship at Enterprise Ohio
By: Johnese Sherron, Community Development & Policy Intern, Summer 2017
This summer I had the fantastic opportunity to return to Enterprise as an intern. Last summer I was the State and Local Policy Intern. This summer I transitioned into a new role as a Community Development and Policy Intern. Coming into this summer, I was familiar with the work that Enterprise does. I was excited to see all of the familiar faces and see what new work Enterprise was doing. When I first arrived, it felt as if I was returning home from a long vacation. Everyone was excited to see me. I was filled with questions about how I had been and what was going on in my life. This really set the tone for how the Enterprise Ohio team is and how the internship would go.
Starting out, I had no idea what my work load would look like this year compared to that of last year. I had a fresh start. This summer I focused a lot of my time and effort on reentry. This was a newer concept for me. I was able to research government run reentry offices for Cuyahoga County, where the Cleveland, Ohio office is located. I was given the opportunity to be able to be a part of the beginning stages of this reentry work and being able to critically think about how Enterprise can be a part of this work. Another thing that I had the pleasure of working on was the second annual Policy Briefing. This briefing featured speakers from the national Enterprise office, Marion McFadden and Liz Osborn. The event was very successful and well attended.
Once again, Enterprise has provided me with another amazing opportunity. I was able to get something different out of this summer than I did last summer. I am truly blessed for the opportunity I had to work at Enterprise. I will forever be grateful to the Enterprise Ohio staff for allowing me to become an intern for the second summer.
