Ana I. Bonilla is a program officer in the Enterprise Community Partners Pacific Northwest office, based in Seattle, Wash. Ana brings lived affordable housing experience, having grown up in public housing in Los Angeles. Ana also has over a decade of experience advocating for health, equity, and justice for low-income communities and communities of color.
Ana joined Enterprise Community Partners to lead the Pacific Northwest’s state and local policy efforts in June 2018. Prior to joining Enterprise, Ana spent two and a half years with Prevention Institute, a national nonprofit who mission is to build prevention and health equity into key policies and actions at the federal, state, local, and organizational level to ensure that all places where people live, work, play and learn foster health, safety and wellbeing. In her role, she contributed foundational research to the 2015 report Healthy Development without Displacement. Ana assisted in organizing a summit focused on these issues, scanned the landscape for best practices around land use and health equity, and produced research and reports for the LA based Healthy, Equitable, Active Land Use Network. This work contributed to identifying policies and root causes to inequitable health outcomes stemming from the land use system and the solutions, such as affordable housing, needed to address them.
Prior to joining Prevention institute, Ana spent five years helping to initiate and grow The California Endowment’s Building Healthy Communities initiative in Long Beach, focused on identifying policy, systems and environmental changes that could lead to improvements in community health and equity.
Ana received a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Environmental Policy from Occidental College and a master’s degree in both Urban and Regional Planning and Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles.
