2017 Annual Report
2017 Annual Report
In our 2017 annual report, people living in three Enterprise-supported communities tell us their stories of transformation. Opening up about their struggles, goals and hopes for the future, residents share the ways their lives have improved by living in a well-designed, affordable home connected to opportunity. The videos also offer insights from Enterprise staff, partners and funders who work side-by-side on solutions that make it possible for people and neighborhoods to thrive. Together, we're building the community we all want.
Our Impact
In 2017, Enterprise helped create or preserve more than 61,000 homes in 343 cities – and our programs were key drivers of these results.
By piloting and scaling our solutions and innovations, we're improving communities and linking them to critical services and resources for the families who live there. Our work in markets across the country tackles local challenges for low- and moderate-income people.
Here are more ways we made a significant impact last year.

Supporting Disaster-Stricken Communities
Enterprise played an important role in recovery and rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy, and we leveraged that expertise after 2017's catastrophic weather events. The Enterprise Hurricane Recovery Fund provided more than $1 million in grants and technical support to community organizations to date. We also partnered on a $15 million loan fund – the loans can be approved and disbursed swiftly to spur repairs and rebuilding. Plus, our expanding library of tools and publications help developers incorporate flood-proofing and risk-mitigation features.

Saving the Most Essential Funding Source for Affordable Homes
While some critics of the final 2017 tax reform package argue the bill could harm the nation's lowest-income families, Enterprise and our partners successfully advocated to preserve crucial, proven programs. Our leadership on the ACTION Campaign helped maintain the Housing Credit in the final legislation, and our advocacy resulted in significant funding increases for housing and community development programs. Enterprise led or supported state and local efforts to secure more than $10 billion in ballot measures and new funding, and our policy research provides nonpartisan knowledge to government leaders and our industry.

Promoting Fair Housing, Racial Equity & Inclusion
In 2017, Enterprise hosted Undesign the Redline to raise awareness about the historical roots of housing discrimination, urban blight and the racial wealth gap, and to promote a dialogue about how to remove barriers to fair housing that still exist today. We also co-launched the Sustainable, Prosperous, and Resilient Communities Challenge (SPARCC) initiative, created to reverse racial and economic inequities in communities of color and low-income neighborhoods. Outside of Enterprise, we’re bringing a racial equity lens across all our efforts to promote fair housing and equitable access to opportunity.
