Enterprise and The Freedom Forum are pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Excellence in Urban Journalism Awards.
Editorial writer and columnist, Jeff Gerrit, took the Free Press readers on a year-long exploration into the need for a cohesive, national agenda for American cities. The series concludes with a look into then President-Elect Barack Obama’s commitment to make Washington a partner in the rebuilding efforts of our nation’s urban centers.
Editor and writer, Tim Covi reports on the well known secret that homelessness is what faces many parolees immediately upon release from prison. Covi shows what Colorado plans to do about this critical impediment in the states’ reentry efforts.
The annual award, offered in partnership with The Freedom Forum, encourages and recognizes quality reporting on major issues facing the nation's urban areas, particularly inner cities. The award is open to professional journalists who work in a variety of formats and submissions may be made by individuals or teams. Two winners will be selected and each will receive an award and a $2,500 allotment.
