Supportive Housing Community Welcomes New Residents

Greenbridge Commons is a newly constructed permanent supportive housing property located along the RTA Health Line in the greater University Circle district of Cleveland. Like all Housing First properties, Greenbridge is in an excellent location and within walking distance to retail stores, employment, educational institutions and health care services. Services are available on-site, and staff is present 24 hours per day to ensure the health and well-being of residents. Greenbridge Commons meets the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria for energy-efficient, healthy affordable housing, with native plant landscaping, a community garden and rain barrels to capture water for irrigation. Other amenities include a computer lab, a large community space with kitchen, laundry facilities, an outdoor pavilion and an art gallery/therapy space.

Greenbridge Commons is the first Housing First community to lease-up using the Centralized Priority Intake process, which prioritizes individuals who need supportive housing the most who have been on the streets or in the shelters the longest and who have the greatest social and health needs. The goal is to help chronically homeless people move into an affordable home in a service-rich environment within roughly two weeks.

“Not only is this true to the spirit of Housing First, but it is also the most effective use of resources,” said Jennifer Eppich, Enterprise senior program director.

Cleveland Housing Network (CHN) is the lead developer and owner of Greenbridge Commons. EDEN is the co-developer, owner and property manager, and Mental Health Services, Inc. (MHS) is the lead supportive services provider. This development and operations team has already created more than 400 units of supportive housing that have received high praise from neighbors and elected officials, and where nearly all residents have achieved housing stability.

Enterprise directs the Housing First Initiative through creation of Housing First standards, processes, and performance monitoring; advocacy to policymakers to prioritize permanent supportive housing; strengthening the capacity of providers; and raising and managing resources.
