The Mark Twain, St. Louis
Enterprise and Brady Capital worked together with the Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance (RHCDA) to breathe new life into the Mark Twain, a historic building in the convention and hotel district. It now boasts 233 newly renovated apartments for low-income people.

St. Louis Groundbreaking Marks a First for the City and Enterprise

It was a great day in St. Louis for a groundbreaking -- crystal blue skies, temperature in the 80's and a tent to keep everyone cool. And the Aug. 31 event celebrating the start of work on Rosati House marked the city's first green, permanent supportive housing development.

Along with Pamela Coaxum, director of Enterprise's St. Louis office, Rep. William Lacy Clay and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay helped "turn the dirt."

"I was proud to represent Enterprise," Pam said. "It's been a long haul, but with this project I believe we will see continued growth."

Enterprise, through an agreement with the city of St. Louis, supports the financing of permanent supportive housing developments such as Rosati House to help the city meet its 10-year plan to eliminate chronic homelessness. Enterprise participation is through the National Supportive Housing Program, Green Communities and St. Louis Section 4 funding.

"The homeless count has already decreased by 23 percent over the past year due to partnerships such as this," Pam said. Rosati House marks an opportunity to not only provide quality housing for formerly homeless individuals, but it will be green as well. The greening of the development will make for a healthier environment, while keeping residents' operating costs at a minimum.

The project is a partnership between Enterprise, the Missouri Housing Development Commission, Federal Home Loan Bank and the St. Louis Equity Fund.

"We're glad to help the city meet its goal and especially grateful that, with this project, 29 formerly homeless individuals will have a healthy, green place to call home," Pam said. "What a blessing and what a great day to be an Enterpriser!"
