The New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) recently produced a series of public service announcements on the importance of affordable housing, starring Mo Vaughn, Tiki Barber, and Enterprise Trustee Edward Norton. Watch the PSAs.
Through Green Communities, Enterprise will offer grant funds of up to $50,000 per project for developers committed to providing green affordable housing. Applications will be accepted from August 5 to September 18.

Enterprise’s Green Communities initiative was one of nine winners of the first annual Sustainable Cities Awards program, sponsored jointly by the Financial Times and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). The Awards honor global examples of best practices in sustainable land use. Since 2004, the Green Communities has invested more than $570 million to create more than 11,000 green affordable homes across 100 U.S. cities. The theme of the 2007 Annual Report is “Enterprise at 25: Lead with Ideas. Demonstrate with Action. Transform with Capital. In 2004, Enterprise pledged to invest $1 billion to create 15,000 affordable homes in New York City communities by 2009. As of July 11, we have invested $822 million in equity, loans and grants to develop or preserve more than 11,800 affordable homes. Learn more about the Billion Dollar Promise.
Anne Cooleen recently joined Enterprise as Director of Asset Management after serving as an Assistant Vice President of Centerline Capital Group. She brings more than twenty years of real estate property management and development experience concentrated in the New York City area. Enterprise also welcomes Bomee Jung as Program Director, Green Communities. Bomee founded and served as the first executive director of GreenHome NYC, a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable building construction and operation. Bomee comes to Enterprise after completing her Masters in City Planning from MIT.
Enterprise’s New York City office has helped the state’s Division of Housing and Community Renewal and the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development adopt much of Enterprise’s Green Communities Criteria. As a result, extra points are available in the 2008 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit applications for projects meeting the Green Communities Criteria. In June, Gov. David Paterson announced $137 million in DHCR funding that will help build and preserve 6,415 affordable homes. Learn more about Enterprise’s Green Communities policy work.

Enterprise joined CAMBA, a non-profit housing and social services provider, and government officials for the dedication of the Anna Gonzalez Apartments in Brooklyn last month. The supportive housing development provides permanent affordable housing and on-site services for nearly 100 formerly homeless and low-income individuals. Enterprise provided $3.8 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credit equity investment for the apartments. Additional financing was provided by the NYS Homeless Housing and Assistance Corporation, the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the NYC Department of Homeless Services.
