Do we have to have a nonprofit organization as a partner?

Yes!  Teams must partner with a local nonprofit agency.  The nonprofit must be a 501(c) (3) organization. The following sources can provide information regarding local nonprofit organizations:

Laura Crochet
Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO)
504-309-2081
laura@nonprofit-central.org

Derrick Williams
Office of Recovery, Development & Administration
City of New Orleans
504-658-8400
dewilliams@cityofno.com

Must the project proposals be focused on New Orleans?

No – but because of the unique opportunities and enormous need in New Orleans, we are encouraging the teams to focus their projects on one of the 17 targeted recovery zones identified by the Office of Recovery, Development & Administration.

When are the abstracts for the project proposals due?

Abstracts are due approximately three weeks after the live online event on Thursday, February 28.  The abstract should be no more than five pages; double-spaced (12 pt. font).  The abstract should briefly describe the nonprofit partner, community need, project, financing, and student team.

When will we receive the stipend?

Upon receipt of the abstract and qualifying for the next round of competition, Chase will provide a $1,500 stipend to help defray the costs associated with the competition. Stipends will be administered and disbursed through Enterprise.

When are the completed project proposals due?

The due date for the project proposals is Friday, April 18.  Completed proposals must be sent via email to Monica Gonzalez at mgonzalez@enterprisecommunity.org.  No proposals will be accepted after this due date.

When do the teams present their project proposals to the judges?

Based on the written proposals, up to 6 semi-finalist teams will be selected to present their proposals orally to the judges in New Orleans on Thursday, May 8th, 2008.  These six semi-finalist teams will present their proposals and address specific questions submitted to them by the judges based on their written proposals.

What criteria are used to evaluate the proposals?

Evaluations are based on financing (40 pts), design (30 pts), community support (20 pts.) and quality of the written and oral presentations (10 pts).
