2008 Affordable Housing Week Accomplishments
The 2008 Affordable Housing Week culminated in the Housing Stars Breakfast, which was attended by over 120 people, including bankers, developers, city state and elected officials. Enterprise Denver Office Director Karen Lado kicked off the event and Denver City Council President Michael Hancock served as the master of ceremonies. Sheila Maith, an advisor to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, was the keynote speaker. Her talk touched upon the challenges and opportunities for the affordable housing community as a result of the troubles in the homeownership industry. The Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, Washington Mutual, and Wells Fargo sponsored the Housing Stars Breakfast.

Enterprise gave out awards to four Housing Stars

  • Leader of the Year - Sister Lillian Murphy, Mercy Housing
  • Volunteer of the Year - Britta Fisher, Colorado Housing Investment Fund Coalition
  • Resident of the Year - Farhana Blair, Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver
  • Project of the Year - Residences at Creekside, developed by the Lakewood Housing Authority

Third Annual Poster Contest Winners
In addition, Enterprise recognized the winner of the the third annual poster contest, in which children who currently live in affordable housing are asked to draw a picture of what home means to them. This year's winner was eight-year old Nidal Khamis, the daughter of Somali refugees who now live in a property owned by a Lakewood Housing Authority. The poster contest honorable mention went to thirteen-year old Walter Macias of Denver. Enterprise received over 40 entries in the poster contest.
