The U.S. House of Representatives passed the landmark HOPE VI Improvement and Reauthorization Act earlier this year. Now under Senate consideration, the bill marks the first time lawmakers have authorized holistic environmental principles in a major housing program. The Gotham City Gala is an annual event that supports Enterprise’s work to build decent, affordable housing for New York’s lowest income residents.
Enterprise reached out to teenagers taking part in our nonprofit community partners' youth programs, and gave them digital video cameras so they could tell their stories of what home means to them.
Megan Santos of the Bronx, 17, was the winner of the "This Is My Home" video competition. Megan worked with Enterprise New York's creative partners, Mammalfish, to produce a professional version of her video, which premiered at the Gotham City Gala on December 11, 2007.
At Enterprise New York's 2006 Gotham City Gala fundraising event, four New Yorkers stood up and told their stories of how having a safe, affordable, and decent place to call home was the key to helping them stay out of poverty and pursue their dreams. View their stories here.
