Chairs’ Letter
Earlier this year, Enterprise elected us to chair the boards of Enterprise Community Partners and Enterprise Community Investment.
We are honored to serve in these critical roles to carry on the extraordinary work of Co-Founders Jim and Patty Rouse and former Chair Bart Harvey. Enterprise has a stellar track record for helping to improve hundreds of communities across America. As board chairs, we will do everything within our power to ensure that the work of Enterprise and its partners continues to transform the landscape of affordable housing and community development in the nation.
In 2007, Enterprise celebrated its 25th anniversary as a national leader in affordable housing finance and community development. Through our mission, we have helped to transform the lives of more than one million low-income Americans, particularly people at the lowest end of the economic scale, by providing fit and affordable housing and other important community development tools and services. We will continue these efforts by working together with our boards, the CEOs and their management teams and staff.
As our industry faces unprecedented market and economic challenges, Enterprise has adapted by seeking to expand our investor and donor bases, working more effectively with our community development partners and providing the best possible products and services to help them continue to create affordable housing nationwide. It requires rolling up our sleeves with all of our partners to understand what they need and how we can work together to provide caring and responsible solutions to America’s affordable housing shortage.
Our diverse experiences in the public and private sectors will help us guide Enterprise’s boards. We share a vision led by three guiding principles that reinforce the vital work of Enterprise:
Social Equity – Ensuring that all low-income people have the opportunity for and access to affordable housing regardless of their age, ability or ethnicity.
Economic Opportunity – Eliminating the gap to ensure that people have access to opportunities that help sustain their families and communities.
Environmental Stewardship – Leaving our communities to the next generation in better shape than we found them.
We are committed to Jim Rouse’s vision, and we invite you to join us in this work.
